Kevin Magnussen received three penalty points during The Miami Grand Prix for continuously going off the track and gaining an advantage while attempting to defend against Lewis Hamilton, with the intention of stopping the Mercedes from catching up to his teammate Nico Hulkenberg, who was in seventh place.
Magnussen is on the brink of facing a Formula 1 race ban due to his controversial actions on the track during the Miami GP weekend.
The race stewards in Miami have added five penalty points to Magnussen’s superlicence, bringing his total to 10. If a driver accumulates 12 penalty points within a 12-month period, they will automatically receive a one-race suspension.
Magnussen has earned all 10 of his points in the first six races of this season, starting in March. The first three points were a result of a collision with Alex Albon at the Saudi Arabian GP on March 9.
These points will remain on his record until March 9 of the following year, just before the beginning of the 2025 season.
How Can Kevin Magnussen avoid a race ban?
In order to prevent being banned, Magnussen must ensure that he does not accumulate two penalty points in the remaining 18 races of the 2024 campaign.
